Kiri Nathan weaving is created by hand and woven only here in New Zealand. Our feathers sourced locally from a small Maori owned business, when this business can not provide we ethically source off shore.  All weaving is made from contemporary cord and natural feather.  Kiri returned to the Marae (Maori meeting house) to learn the art of Raranga (traditional Maori weaving) in Harakeke (Flax) and contemporary Korowai (Maori Cloak) she combined this connection and learning with her love of fashion and created the Kiri Nathan woven collections. Inspiration comes from Korowai (Maori Cloaks), Kakahu (Full Feather Maori Cloaks and garments) and Taniko (patterned borders).  Traditionally all raranga and weaving are  from handmade with harakeke (flax) hand worked into Muka (fine threads). Traditional Korowai and Kakahu can take up to one year to weave. Karakia (prayer) is practiced throughout the weaving process and Kawa and Tikanga (protocol, custom, ethic) is always adhered to.
