Pounamu (greenstone) is a taonga (treasure) in Māoridom and a valued stone that has spiritual significance. Only found in the South Island of Aotearoa New Zealand, Pounamu is under the kaitiaki (guardianship) of the Ngāi Tahu Iwi (Tribe) and the authentication act. Each piece holds it's own mana (integrity, strength) denoting status, power and healing properties. Pounamu is traditionally handed down as a valued heirloom or given as a gift to affirm relationships, peace, love and safe journeys/life.
