Ahakoa he iti, he pounamu (Although small it is precious)

Pounamu (greenstone) is a taonga (treasure) in Māoridom. A valued stone that has spiritual significance. It is highly prized and is only found in the South Island of New Zealand.  Pounamu is under kaitiakitanga (guardianship) of the Ngāi Tahu Iwi (Tribe) and the authentication act. Each piece holds it's own mana (integrity, strength) denoting status, powe and healing properties. Pounamu is traditionally handed down as a valued heirloom or given as a gift to affirm relationships, peace, love and safe journeys/life.
