Matariki signifies hope, reflection, gathering of people, and our bond with te taiao (nature). It’s linked to hauora (health) and sometimes seen as a sign of good fortune.
This star is widely known as the mother of the cluster. She supports, and encourages her 8 tamariki (children). If Matariki appears bright in the night sky, it signifies luck, peace, and well-being. When observed during illness, it’s a hopeful sign of recovery, as affirmed by the whakataukī below.
